Information on the Akamai Netsession Client.
Akamai Netsession Client
At some point or another, you may have come across Akamai or its Netsession Client on your computer or on the internet. Akamai makes its Netsession Client so it can help to speed up computer uploads and downloads all around the world.
Whether you know it or not, your computer has probably downloaded music, videos, pictures, or other content from the Akamai Netsession Client. That may sound scary, if you have been suspicious of Akamai programs for whatever reason. The good thing about Akamai is, you can get things from the internet faster than you would otherwise be able to get them. For example, if you download an ebook, or stream video off Amazon.com, you are probably getting that information through Akamai since Amazon uses their service to hasten downloads. Other websites will use Akamai’s Netsession services in order to help you get what you want faster, as well. As nice as that sounds, there is something better than just going to an Akamai-affiliated vendor or server on the internet. If you want even more speed and reliability in your downloads, you should find and get the Akamai Netsession Client.
The Akamai Netsession Client can be downloaded as part of the Akamai Netsession Interface, so your computer can also be part of the reason why Akamai is basically the ultimate download speed booster. With the Akamai Netsession Client on your computer, Akamai will start to use your computer as part of a peer-to-peer network while you are connected to the internet. Basically what that means is, Akamai can share things that you have downloaded with other people who are downloading that same thing. When a computer can draw information from more than one source at a time, it will be able to have a more secure, efficient, and complete download of that of content. Otherwise, you would just be downloading off a single server that could get bogged down by other user traffic. If you are downloading from multiple computers that could just be idle at the moment, your download will move faster. That being said though, there is no guarantee that your downloads will always be faster, or that other people downloading information from your computer will get their download very fast all the time. It’s not a perfect system, but it does help out most of the time.
On the other side of the coin, a lot of people get concerned about the very idea of the Akamai Netsession Client. Most people are scared that Akamai could be downloading or uploading information that they are either not giving permission for, or information they didn’t know Akamai could take because terms and conditions pages are always too long to read. The Akamai website’s client page has a list of links for things like the user’s bill of rights, the end user agreement, and the interface design principles. While these are not exhaustive guides as to what the Netsession client is and can do, it can give you a basic idea of what to expect from having and using the client on your computer.
